Services
- For local use, you can borrow a ROMOSS sailing 3 battery bank to charge batteries for mobile phones and other digital devices.
- There are 7 internet computers in the reading room. An extra monitor, keyboard and mouse are also available on site. You can book your computer time in advance by e-mail or phone.
You can borrow e-readers from Tallinn Libraries for 21 days without the possibility of extending the return period.
You can borrow the BOOX C65ML and BOOX Go Color 7 (Gen II) e-readers from the Liivalaia Library.
As a reader of Tallinn Libraries you can:
- borrow from a self-service machine, return books in some libraries, and check your loans, overdue charges and extend the deadline for returning the item(s) if you wish. You can print out a loan slip or send it to an e-mail. It is not possible to borrow items from another service unit or reading room, to borrow items on hold for another patron, or to borrow items or the latest issues of journals from branch libraries. If you have any questions, please ask the librarian.
- with the smart return shelf, you can quickly return items by placing them on the shelf and pressing “Return” on the screen.
- pre-order books (or others) with ESTER status in the e-catalogue in advance via the website order form, e-mail or telephone. Loaning lockers are located at the libraries of Südalinna, Liivalaia, Kännukuke, Laagna, Nõmme, Paepealse, Pelguranna, Pirita, Pääsküla, Väike-Õismäe. After you have placed your order, the library will contact you.
We offer free individual and group training in Tallinn Libraries. We will agree on the time and place of the training together. The topics can be adapted and combined. We’ll find the right option for you.

- We organize both group and individual trainings at Liivalaia Library. We conduct trainings in Estonian, English, Russian and Ukrainian.

Scanning
- Scanning by the librarian and sending to the reader’s e-mail address 0,20 € per page.
At Liivalaia library, you can play board games on site or borrow them to take home.
We also have a PlayStation 4. You can play console games only on spot. List of games here→
The puppet show “Sipsik” is intended for both kindergarten and primary school children. The show helps to raise interest in Estonian classical children’s literature, including children of other languages, and connects the “heard story” with a visual experience. The puppet show is also well suited to the context of language learning, as short sentences, repetitions and visual scenes support the understanding of the Estonian language.
We invite kindergarten groups, classes and teachers to visit us for library hours.
- Library hour is an educational and participatory non-formal educational program in the library.
- It lasts about 45 minutes.
- Educational programmes are free of charge for Tallinn educational institutions! (except Culture Ticket classes). For institutions outside Tallinn, the library’s price list applies (except via Culture Backpack). ↓
Tallinn Libraries sell fiction (including children’s literature and poetry) and non-fiction books that are out of date, in large print or in new editions. Book prices start from € 0,15. The books on sale can be consulted at the library. The proceeds of the sale will be used to buy new books.
Libraries occasionally organise book fairs, keep an eye on our news, events calendar or join our newsletter. We also share information on our social media channels on Facebook and Instagram.
Almost all of us have books at home that we’ve read once but don’t want to read again. I’m sure there’s someone somewhere who needs that book for themselves. You can bring the book(s) you no longer need from home to our library and pick up a new one from the library’s book exchange shelf.
The book exchange shelf is located to the left of the main library door, next to the creativity room.
NB! The book exchange shelf is not intended for returning borrowed books and library books may not be placed there.
We offer our readers the opportunity to use our creativity room for free. The room can accommodate up to 30 people. Please book in advance.
The creativity room can also be rented for paid trainings, events or public gatherings for €40/hour, price coefficient 0.4-1.0.
For visitors with special needs
- You can access the library via a ramp in a wheelchair or stroller. From the reading room or lobby, you can access the ramp inside the building, and from there to the loaning hall.
- We have an accessible toilet with a changing table.
- The service counter has a hearing aid’s hearing loop, which you can use with your hearing aid in hearing loop mode.
- You can borrow a magnifying glass from the service counter.

If you are a resident of Tallinn and are temporarily or permanently disabled and unable to visit the library, you can use the free home delivery service.

Lending service for institutions (roaming service)
Download from books, magazines, sports equipment, etc. for institutions (legal entities). At the Liivalaia Library we offer a mobile collection service for medical and care institutions.

Public Transportation
- If you’re coming by public transportation, the four nearest bus stops all have the same name—“Hotell Olümpia.” Buses 3, 16, 19, 23, 25, 39, 54, and 67 stop at these stops.

Parking
- Visitors arriving by car can park in the Stockmann parking garage according to the rates in effect there, or on the street near the building, where the paid parking zone for the DOWNTOWN area applies.
