Pupet theatre in Tallinn Libraries

Kännukuke Library (Vilde tee 72)

The puppet theatre “Säde” is active. The library has put together some fun puppet shows based on the librarians’ favourite children’s books. For example, Piret Jaaks’ “The Wise Dog” and Heljo Mann’s “Sword Fairy Tales” have been performed. The performances last about 10 minutes and are held in conjunction with a library lesson.

Puppet theatre diversifies library visits, makes library lessons more interesting and playful, and helps children get to know the book environment better. The playful form encourages children’s involvement, develops listening and expression skills. Since the texts of the performances are adapted to library lessons, they are also easily understandable for children with other home languages and support integration through fun activities.

Paepealse Library (Pinna 8)

Puppet shows are in business. Children visiting the library for the first time will be treated to a performance of “Animals introduce the library“, a fun story about who is the writer, who the artist and what the library is like. Joonas Sildre’s “Moon Cat’s Space Capers” has been chosen as the theme for the show.

Plus: A puppet stage and a range of puppets, hats and a cape await young do-it-yourselfers in the library, which can be used to embody a variety of imaginative activities and characters. The puppet theatre is free to use on site and there is no need to book an appointment.

Liivalaia Library (Liivalaia 40)

The puppet show “Raggie”. Designed for kindergarten and primary school children. The performance helps to arouse interest in classical Estonian children’s literature among children, including children of other languages, and connects “the story you hear” with a visual experience. It is also suitable for language learning, as short phrases, repetitions and visual scenes support understanding of Estonian.
