Become a volunteer

Volunteers help our libraries make their services more user-friendly and offer more activities than we could otherwise organise ourselves. Volunteers of all ages and experience also add value, bringing generations and social groups together and strengthening communities.

Examples of activities

• organise events
• assist in language cafés and run language circles.
• working with children and young people
• introduce the library’s services
• organise shelves
• process new books
• write book reviews

• As one of our volunteers, you’ll be contributing to the community and helping people to cope better.
• We give you the chance to explore and experiment with ideas.
• We provide the training and support you need to carry out your activities.
• We organise volunteer get-togethers, recognition and thank you events.
• If necessary, you can get a letter of recommendation when applying for a job or university.

In accordance with the Children’s Protection Act, the Library checks the criminal record of all persons who come into contact with children and young people under the age of 18 in their work or voluntary activities to ensure that there is no restriction on working with minors. The Volunteer Pass is for any volunteer who wants to record the knowledge, skills and experience they have gained through volunteering.

Not all knowledge and skills can be certified by a diploma or certificate, the Volunteer Pass is a good way to record your volunteering experience and use it alongside your CV when applying for jobs, studies or scholarships.
