Register as a reader
To use the library you need a library card.

Getting a library card on the spot at the library
- To get a library card, contact the librarian.
- Submit to identity document (you can also show it from the Estonian app)
- Under 18? You also need consent from a parent or guardian→
- Choose whether you want to register an ID card (free of charge) as a reader card or the library reader card:
To upgrade your ID card to a reader card, you need for digital signature ID-card, SmartID or MobileID a valid certificate and PIN codes. In addition you need a valid e-mail address, where we will also send you a digitally signed copy of the library’s rules of use.
Use of a library card
- To use the library services, present your library card or ID-card (you can also show it from the Estonian app).
- Under 18? Student card is also valid! You cannot use self-service devices only with a student card or ID card in the Estonian app.
- The right to use the library needs to be renewed every year. If your card has expired, come to the library or renew your card in My ESTER
- If you lose your library card, be sure to report it to the library.
- To use someone else’s library card (if you want to send someone else to borrow books with your library card, or lend books to someone else with their library card), you need authorisation↓
