Unsettled Ground

There are many good books in bookstores and libraries, but this is definitely the one you have to read. Beautifully written and at the same time puzzling and disturbing, you just can’t put it away.

The main characters are twins Jeanie and Julius, who at the age of 51 still live with their mother Dot. They grow their own food and live a slightly different, poor and secluded life in a remote area. When their mother dies unexpectedly, secrets start to unravel and the twins have to cope somehow.

How to organize a funeral? Will they be allowed to continue living in their house? Twins knew they were living there for free, but as soon their mother passed away, Mrs Rawson knocked on the door to ask for rent. How to get money to buy food, pay bills etc? Julius works at odd jobs, but Jeanie can’t read or write, so searching for jobs online is not an option. How things will work out, you have to find out yourself.

Great novel about dysfunctional families, secrets, siblings, poverty, grief and survival. I would highly recommend it.
